Costenoble was primarily a painter of the melancholic, tranquil and misty Bruges and the surrounding polders. He participated in more than 75 exhibitions.
He was the director of the Art academy in Bruges. He studied in Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp. He never sought public attention.
This is the church within the beguinage. A masterpiece of Mechelaere. Leo became deaf and mute at a young age. He was present in a lot of living rooms in Bruges and he painted every spot in beautiful Bruges.
He has several paintings of the interior of his house which he stuffed with old furniture. After his death the city thought about making his house into a museum but they didn't.
He is seen as the godfather of the Bruges school. This scenery was painted in "Lissewege" - the white village, part of Bruges.
His house is at Moerstraat 52 in the center of Bruges. He is one of the most commercially succesfull painters of Bruges.
André celebrated his 100th anniversary last year. This is a typical scenary of the marshes just outside Bruges.
This is an intriging painting. It is the Mee bridge. The oldest stone bridge of Bruges in the mist. He studied at the Bruges Art Academy with Flori Van Acker. He was renowned for his copy work of old masters such as Hans Memling.
This is as impressionistic as it can get. From very close it is only spots of paint but from further away you discover a stream and some trees. The frame attracts a lot of attention. This work will impress on any wall.
When Julien was painting along the Seine, a man talked to him and invited him in his home to work for him as a gardener. That man was Claude Monet.

One of the best known painters from the Bruges school. They called him the Parisien of Bruges because he lived in Montmartre and was befriended with Renoir, Degas en Monet.
