School of Bruges
The School of Bruges was and is a community of artists united by their deep love for the enchanting city of Bruges. Spanning multiple generations, these talented individuals have created works that embody various art movements, each piece reflecting the unique spirit of its time and the innovative techniques they employed. The Bruges art academy and its inspiring teachers have played a pivotal role in nurturing this artistic legacy, with each generation passing down their passion and knowledge to the next.
From around 1850 to 1980, this remarkable group includes hundreds of painters, some of whom became professional artists (even facing hardships), while others embraced their passion as dedicated amateurs. They came together in art academies like Kring 46, Iris, and the West Flemish Art Circle, fostering a rich artistic dialogue. Many artists traveled from afar, including notable painters from France and the Netherlands, who were drawn to Bruges to capture its charming scenes on canvas.
Our collection proudly showcases the stunning works of these artists, each painting a testament to their unique styles and the eras they lived in. At Brugarto, we are passionate about making these extraordinary pieces of art accessible to everyone. Come and experience the breathtaking beauty of Bruges, beautifully captured on canvas, in our collection!
